Laurie Szujewska is the principal of shoe-yéf-skä design, a firm specializing in graphic design and typography for use in the education and entertainment of children.

Ms. Szujewska received her MFA in Graphic Design from the Yale School of Art, where she studied with Paul Rand, Bradbury Thompson, Wolfgang Weingart, Armin Hofmann and Edward Tufte. She joined Adobe Systems early in its formation, serving as art director in Adobe’s type products division under the leadership of Sumner Stone. Szujewska was responsible for the design of the award-winning Adobe Original’s type specimen books series, the magazine Font and Function, and the creation of the typeface Giddyup.

The recipient of numerous design awards, she has taught design and typography at the California College of Arts and Crafts in San Francisco and Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She also studied and maintained a studio at the Center for Book Arts, New York City.

Ms. Szujewska currently resides on Sonoma Mountain north of San Francisco, where she maintains her design studio. She also teaches children about wildlife and ecology at the Fairfield Osborne Nature Preserve.
