L’Eras commença son existence vers le début des années 1960, sous la forme d’une série unique existant en capitales. Ses dessins prennent leurs sources dans la capitale Romaine quelque peu interprétée. Véritable création d’Albert Boton travaillant alors pour le compte d’Albert Hollenstein, c’est Gérard Blanchard qui poussa Boton à y ajouter des minuscules. En 1976, l’International Typeface Corporation publia l’ITC Eras sous la forme d’une famille de 5 graisses. L’ITC Eras par ses formes ouvertes, son gros œil et sa subtile inclinaison en font un caractère très clair. Au final, on obtient une Linéale incisée très lisible.
