Since he was old enough to hold a pen Jim Wasco has been doing calligraphy and hand lettering. His father, a graphic designer and photographer got him started by teaching him calligraphy when he was a kid. Jim says type design and lettering are in his blood. So it was no surprise that Jim pursued a career in type design.
Jim was a member of the typographic staff at Adobe Systems for 13 years. Prior to working at Adobe, he ran his own freelance business for 15 years in the San Francisco Bay Area specializing in hand lettering. Jim is currently working at Agfa Monotype in Palo Alto, California.
Jim's hobbies are cooking and playing jazz piano. He enjoys bicycle riding, skiing, and going on hikes with his wife, Robin, and their German Shorthaired Pointer, Casey. They have three kids, Mick in high school, Alison in college, and Andrew, who just graduated from Chapman University. They live in Pacifica, on the coast south of San Francisco with a beautiful view of the San Pedro Mountains.
