After studying art and design at Harpur College in upstate New York, Richard Lipton began his professional lettering career in 1974 as a freelance calligrapher, sign painter, and graphic designer. Since 1991, Lipton has focused on original typeface design, custom font development, and calligraphy - both commercially and for exhibition. His graceful Adobe® Original type family, Bickham Script, reflects his calligraphic sensitivity and versatility. A list of Lipton's type designs includes Alhambra™, Avalon™, Bremen™, Ecru™, Hoffmann™, Meno™, Munich™, Nutcracker™, Shimano™, Shogun™, Sloop™, and Talon™ for The Font Bureau; and Arrus™ and Cataneo™ (with Jacqueline Sakwa) for Bitstream.
